Joe Johnston Talks Jurassic Park 4

November 6, 2009

Ain't It Cool News got a chance to talk to The Wolfman director Joe Johnston and the interview briefly turned to the possibility of a Jurassic Park 4. Johnston directed the third film in the franchise, which was released in 2001.

"There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three," Johnston told the site, "It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."

He added that it likely won't be another storyline about a group of people struggling to survive a dinosaur attack. "We've done that and it's been done three times..."

The site commented that they should stay away from an island setting this time. "Why would anybody go back to that island?" Johnston said. "It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go, but it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically, but when it gets to that level it's sort of about studios and Steven [Spielberg's] thing and who knows. I think we are at that point where we are due for another one if we are going to do it."

Universal Pictures has not targeted a release date for a fourth film.

Please don't let Johnston come back. Need someone who was involved with the original to be in the director's chair, preferably Spielberg, but that's unlikely and he's proven he can't do "popcorn films" anymore. Maybe someone like Dennis Muren get a promotion to director or even get David Koepp involved.

Rename it and start a fresh storyline/characters. Don't tarnish the sacred name of Jurassic Park. Enough damage has been made.

Sounds stupid , what else can they do ? We had dinosaurs rampaging the island , we had dinosaurs rampaging the city . This movie does not need to be made . We have seen it all before so let it be . I beg the studios to spend the money on a movie that may actually be original and exciting .
What's next ? i have some ideas to take some sequels in a new direction
E.T 2 - ET returns to earth to find Gertie is a crack whore and Billy is dying of AIDS .
Jaws 9 Jaws contiues his decimation of the Brody family , this chapter takes on more of a SAW feel . Schindlers List 2 This time round an aging schindler infiltrates and attempts to rescue inmates from Guantanamo Bay .
Sounds classy hey ?

JP4 should definately be on an island, where else would dinosaurs be that people would be naive enough to buy it...JP3 sucked, poorly written, acted and paced (all victims die in beginning). If they make another, bring back Goldblum/Sam Neill
